Possible security related problem

Hello,

I have recently built a new PC and installed XP Pro SP2 onto it. I didnt have any problems for a month or so then I kept loosing my wirelessconnection whilst gaming and loosing sound completely and then having to re-install my sound card drivers, I was getting a message right after boot saying ' generic host 52 must close'. (or somethign along them lines)

I got sick of this problem and googled for results, among these possible fixes to my problem was one which told me to tweak something in 'administrative tools' (cant remember what though, thats my trouble) which I did and it seemed to fix my problem providing I connected to my router other ethernet rather than wi-fi. So I have since had no more trouble with my sound, although when I loaded up Quake for the first time after chnaging my settings I had to check a box to manually allow it to run as well as a few other programs, again everything going well.

Now I have a whole new host of problems, I cant view encrypted pages or web pages in general wont load properly, I cant upload files to my lycos mail, I cant pay for goods on ebay as the page wont load properly, I cant use Ares P2P program as I get the blue screen of death, expecially when using there internal auido player, I cant burn CD's in nero (but can no problem in WM player) when I download certain files i.e. my printer drivers for my dell all in one the downloads wont finish, they get to 1 second remaining and wotn finish, had this problem with other downloads too, I have just downloaded the BF2 patch (280mb) and it wont patch properly, quake wouldnt patch, Also various files wont unzip with winrar, you get the picture? bascially my PC is so secure that I cant do anything with it unless its using windows programs and utillitys.

Does anyone know how to fix this? any help would be great, I am willing to try just about anything (excluding hammers etc...save em til last)

Thanks even is you just read all of that:)

P.S.
I have windows firewall installed but even when I disable it nothing changes, I still get the same problem, it seems the problem is security related but i dont know where to look, does anyone know how to reduce all the secuirty settings on XP Pro through the administrator account?

I dont think you have a security related problem...I think ya just got button happy and tweaked a bunch of things you didnt know what ya was tweakin...lol! If I was you I would backup anything important and just reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows and start from fresh.

I was trying to advoid doing that, ATM that is a last resort.

Why would you not think its something to do with windows security? it wont let me add software to my PC via download (depending on what the software actually is) and it wont let me access certain parts of the internet, I was appeailing for someone to give advice on what I might have tweaked in administrator tools, maybe an engineer (which wasnt alot, one thing from memory) and point me in the direction to fixing it.
