Have a 4 gig ipod that I could reformat and copy linux iso to, would it be possible to boot from the ipod?

Can always burn it to a disc, but I figured I might be able to save some money.

You should be able to boot it from the ipod. The ipod is a hard drive after all.

Edit: wait for more opinions though.

@ lubo: Not all ipods are hard drive based. Even so, basically all USB drives work essentially the same.

@ uk80glue: Yes and no... Simply copying an ISO over will not work. However, there are some releases of Linux that will work on flash drives and such. I know Ubuntu has a release made specifically for netbooks and comes in a package made to export to flash drives.

It is also possible to boot and run some OS's off an external hard drive depeneding on the age of the computer. Linux or a PE version of Windows can usually be configured to install/run off an external USB device.
