Here's the story. i got a new mother board. my processor and RAM arn't good enough to run it. im gonna get a new processor when i get the money. for now, i went to put my old mother board back in. it's telling me that in order to restore windows my hard drive will be erased. fair enough. i figured i would go to my frinds house and hook up my hard drive to his computer and backup my files. all i i really care about is my music, i have about 2,500 songs that i've accumulated over the years and the thought of having to re-download everything is not an option. so, i got to my friends house and hooked up the HD. i went to the drive and tried to open the folder and it said "access denied". im almost positive this is becuase i have my account password protected. basically, i need to know if its possible to get to those files, and if so, please enlighten me as to how. if its not possible then the people at windows are idiots. i understand its a security device but there should be a way to get through it a.k.a. prompting for the password. if any one could help i would be rediculously thankful...

Woah, my eyes hurt after reading all that. Try to break up the text a bit, if you can, cheers. :)

I found this article on Microsoft's website, it may provide the answer

Do you still have access to your old computer, ie putting the drive back in? If so go and move the files to a much easier no restricted folder... like a c:\music folder. Where are the music files located right now? My documents? or your dekstop? (of the old drive of coarse).. let me know if you still have access to old computer...

Or you can take ownership like magic said..

yo, sry for writing so much i'll break it up more next time. thanks for the link i'll try that today but im in school now. and trizoy, i dont have access to my old computer because when i try to boot my hard drive with it being the primary or c: drive, i get a message saying that in order to restore windows it must erase the drive. magicman i think the link you gave me could work, i'll give that a try and see what happens. thanks for the help guys.

you can try making your hard drive the master on your friends computer and his hard drive the slave then transfer it over that way.

I dont know exactly what yer trying to do cuz its somewhat ambiguous but you could try booting off a Windows2000 CD as that bypasses the protection :)
