I have a asus p5b deluxe board. When switching on my pc in the morning the POST process screen stays on for a second and then continues to boot. However later in the day when I restart the PC the POST process screen stays on for around 5-6 seconds and then continues to boot. Any ideas why this it takes longer to boot later on in the day?

Have you cleaned the dust out of your PC in a while?

Sometimes excessive heat stored by dust can cause lagging.

I recall my Abit doing some stuff like that while I still had it. Never quite figured it out...

However, a few things to try. Are your drives all set? Or are they on AUTO? Set any hard drive up with it's parameters, and select CD for your optical drives if possible.

out of curiousity when you start up the pc in the morning I take it that your monitor is off as well. Usually when you turn on a monitor thats been turned off for a few minutes isnt gonna show a display instantly thus why you might believe it takes a second and on restart longer. And when you restart a monitor its on so you dont get that turn on delay. You get what I mean I've seen what your talking about on every computer I've used, its usually the monitor.
