Posting a CPU

OK, so I need to post a CPU and heatsink, what's the best way to ensure there is no damage to either?

And before anyone says it, I don't have the original packaging...

Thanks,
Harry

You can get the original packing from any shop which assembles PC for NoObs.They only install the CPU and throw the packing away.
Original packing is the safest way.

depends, if its a LGA socket, you can get away probably with something as simple as an antistatic bag for the chip, and pop both the hsf and chip in a box with packing peanuts

if its a ZIF socket, you probably want OEM packaging for the chip that you can get from a shop, like mihir said, just a little plastic bubble thing with foam at the back, to keep the chip steady, otherwise the same packing as the LGA, just packing peanuts to keep stuff from going nutty

Would PCWorld qualify as a shop that assembles PCs for noobs? It just about the only pc shop around, and I don't think they actually stock processors...

Its AM3 btw...

Get a bit of foam the same size as the CPU and put it on top of bubblewrap. Put the CPU pin side down on the foam (don't push it down, it will keep itself protected and find its own way) and wrap the processor. It doesn't have to be thick, it is very very hard to damage a CPU, but enough to cover it. Sallotape the bubblewrap so it doesn't unwrap and put it in a box, size doesn't matter, but if it is big you might want to fill the box with pellets or bubblewrap or air bags or some kind of filling
