so heres my 2 potential builds, I would love to hear everybodys advice & comments to help me out!

AMD-

Phenom x4 965 BE - £180
Asus Crosshair III - £140
Corsair Dominator XMS3 4GB 1600 £73
HIS ATI Radeo HD 4870 1024MB - £104

Main parts = £500 delivered

Intel -

Quad core 2 Q9550 LGA775 - £173
Gigabyte GA - EX58-UD3r X58 -£143
OCZ gold 6Gb DDR3 2000mhz - £92 pre order
Palit Geforce GTX260 896MB - £113

About myself, not really going to be spending countless hours on WoW etc but i do have the odd gaming moments...mainly probs football manager & other mmorpgs.

Just looking for a good build that i wont really need to spend more on for a few years.

Thanks for any replys!

I would go with the AMD. You could save some more money with the Phenom II 955 instead of the 965. Both BE models. Dont think generally the 965 overclocks any better then the 955.

Plus the Intel Q9550 will not fit that board anyway. The Q9550 is a 775, the board is a 1366.

I thought the 9550 was equalivalent to the 940? Wouldnt the 965 or 955 be quite a bit better than the proc. anyway?

I hope the guy at the computer shop really wasn't telling you AMD processors are trash. Intel and AMD both make great processors. I prefer AMD because they are less expensive generally over Intel central processing units. Also Intel needs to step up and quit being cheap with heatsink units they are packaging with their processors.

If you are going to go with Advanced Micro Devices I would go with the Phenom II 955 Quad-Core processor over the Phenom II 965. The Phenom II 955 is lower price and gives about the same processing power as the Phenom II 965.
