Power at a LAN Party???

Hey guys,

I'm going to be running a LAN party early next month at a room in the local town hall, and am very worried about power. The room we're going to be using (which is now fully booked eek!) has seven sockets. I'm hoping to have aproximutly 16-20 players (one PC and one monitor per player.) Which means using eight socket adaptors would allow for 56 sockets, divided by two sockets for each player gives a maximum of 28 players. However, will we overload the venue???

Any advice appricated. Thanks!
 
That will depend a lot on how the room is wired. If the entire room is on one breaker, (likely if it is an old building) then it could be a problem.

Would it be possible to run one or two good quality extension cords to different rooms/area to divide up the load onto seperate circuts?

Is there a bulding maintance person that you could talk to? They may be able to help?
 
Just make sure that the power outlet your plugging into with the extension cord isn't tied to the same circuit.

Since theres really no way to tun 16-20 computers off a standard circuit, you were talking about running an extension cord from another room. You need to find out if the outlets in the other room are on the same circuit as the sockets in the room you are having the LAN party. If they are, then it won't help you out at all. To be on the safe side you should find an outlet in a room that has a separate circuit.
