Why does my hard drive not work when plugged into my power supply with the power cable one direction, and when I turn the cable around and it works fine?

Your kidding right? Well its because electricity works only one way and it cant go backwords. so it can only go through your harddrive one way and if you turn the plug around it cant go through.

What? :D No, I mean, you have four wires coming out of the psu and four wires going into the hard drive. All plugs are the same. But it will only work in one direction. It's like the hard drive knows which side of the cable is the power side, master plug and slave plug.

So your saying you have a double molex on the same wire and you plug one into the hard drive and it works then you plug the other plug into the drive and it doesnt work. Well thats because your second(or first plug) has a short in it someware, and you might want to get that fixed. Your hdd doesnt know one power plug from another.

But it will only work in one direction
Theres a reason for that..... unless you mean you have a power splitter type scenario for which youd have to have the feed the split first
