Power on or off?

I am a college student and I was wondering whether it is good or not to be leaving my laptop on all night and day, just having the screen closed. Or should I just put it on hibernate or shutdown. Battery power is not an issue because it is running off the power cord.

It should go into hybernate automatically when you close the lid. Doesn't it? If not, set it to do that. That's what I do with mine.

Mine actually goes to suspend for about 3 hours then hibernate. I think it also suspends automatically after being idle for around 1 hour.

Either way, I wouldn't leave it running. Laptops today get way too hot as it is...

If you are going to leave in on, at least set the monitor to turn off and just leave it open, most laptops give off some heat through the top, and if the screen is there it can build up heat on your screen, I'm not saying it is going to melt it, Unless you have a dustfilled p4 with broken fans, but it probably isn't good in the long run to expose it to additional heat.
