Power On Passwords

Is there an easy way on a dell 600series laptop to break into the power on password? We have a stack of old laptops at work and we have no idea who had them before but we are going to wipe them and put a donation image on them but we need to get past the pop first any ideas?

The only way to get rid of those passwords that I know of is to flash the BIOS in the computer.
take out the cmos battery and leave them overnight
You dont actually flash the motherboard, what you do is reset the CMOS jumper or remove the CMOS battery for ~5-10 minutes, which will reset the BIOS and the passwords that are prompted when you first turn on the computer.

I teach computer classes at a public school in Cincinnati if you need a place to donate to.
Im not sure if their donating them or not, but he said hes putting a donation image on them.

same problem

just went threw this same thing, i just undid the internal battery(looks like a big watch battery) for 5 min, and restarted and then reformatted the drive.

Do laptops have those jumpers? If they do i'm sure it's in a different place on every laptop.

The company i work for is donating but right now we are getting rid of some really old machines all 1ghz and below but we are swamped with people that want them...

I guess so, that would be much better than the 266 laptops some of our students are using!
