Power supply and SDRAM questions

I just bought a used pc from my neighbor.

The specs of the new pc are:
Zalman Z9-Plus mid tower
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
60GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD (OS)
1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue HDD (Storage)
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 motherboard
4GB (2GBx2) 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM (Corsair Vengeance) {9-9-9-24 timing}
Intel Core i5-2500K @ 4.4GHz
Antec Kuhler H20 620 hydro cpu cooler
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5
Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650 watt power supply unit

My question is; Can I take my 5970 and SDRAM out of my other desktop and put it in the new one? (I read that the minimum power supply requirement for my 5970 is 650 watts.) I am thinking of pairing the 8GB SDRAM from my other pc with the 4GB SDRAM on the 1155 socket Gigabyte motherboard making it 12GB... will it work? (They're all 1.5v 1600MHz modules at 9-9-9-24 timing). I don't want to risk damaging the 650 power supply by overloading it with my 5970 and more SDRAM, and perhaps the 1TB hard drive and sound card from my other pc.

If I may damage the 650 power supply, then I guess I CAN use the Corsair AX850 power supply I already have..... but I really can't afford to continue using an 850 watt power supply because I don't make a lot of money from work. I HAVE thought about selling my 5970 and buying another 5870 to crossfire with my new 5870 and using the 650 watt power supply. Any suggestions?

The 650W PSU should be OK for a 5970 so long as it has 42A on the +12V rail. You may or may not have much headroom though.

If you have 2x4GB and 2x2GB yes then 12GB will work so long as the RAM is the same voltage and the same timings. RAM uses little power, especially if it's not overclocked, so don't worry about your power supply and RAM.

That's good to know about the SDRAM modules spirit.... I checked, and yes... the 4GB Corsair modules AND the 8GB Corsair modules are all 1.5 volt/1600MHz/9-9-9-24 timing. I guess the only thing left to do now is replace the 5870 with the 5970 and see if it works. (I'll leave the Seagate 1TB hdd and sound card out though.) I'll let you know if it works.

Well.... it works, surprisingly. There's one teeny tiny problem though..... I got too excited and accidentally knocked the 5870 off my desk and cracked the cover. I'll have to check and see if the 5870 is ok.

Good lord man.... this 2500K is waaay more powerful than my fx-4100! ABSOLUTELY NO lag when playing FSX. I'll have to test some other games too.... man I love this 2500K.:D

The 2500K is awesome, I've got one too. :D Yep, 2500K paired with a 5870. I've got my 2500K OC'ed to 4.3 and it's nice. :)

I can't stop grinning from my 2500K's performance  .... fly's FSX pretty darn smooth. (Still struggles with ORBX PNW scenery maxed out though). I like the SSD too... boots in about 8 seconds.:D A lot faster then my 1TB Seagate HDD.

However, I tried re-running the Windows Experience Index Assessment and my pc froze. Had to do a hard-restart. Got scared for a second there.... but my pc re-booted fine. I guess I'll leave the assessment alone. Any idea why it would freeze while re-running the assessment?

The WEI is useless, it's just a bunch of random numbers. Not sure why it would freeze, maybe try updating Windows?

I fixed the freeze by un-installing the old graphics driver and installing a new one for my 5970, re-ran the assessment and now it's all good. Now I'm gonna install some other games and test out my 2500K.

(My ATI 5870 is still good after dropping it on the floor. It does run a little hotter, but does ok... I'll just replace the stock cover with a Zalman cooler).
