Power Supply Blew Up!!!!!!!!

I was upgrading this computer (P4) I found in the dumpster. I bought a new (referb) hard drive, and a nice brand new video card. I also bought a gig of DDR RAM. I was all excited about I could play some better games than on my old PC (P3). The latest thing that I had done was putting the graphics card in. I put it in there, booted it up and it worked great. So that was a couple days ago. Today I was firing it up and I noticed that it wouldnt turn on. I open up the hood to see if it was getting juice and the light on the MB shows that it is. So I hit the power button again, with the hood off. Take note at this point my nose is like 4 inches away from the computer. All of a sudden I realise fireworks are going off, then I remember it's not indepenance day, and these fireworks are coming from my power supply. When they finally stop, I get really pissed off. I turn off the power strip and walk away. Now here I am. If I lost my BRAND NEW graphics card I payed good money for, I will never forgive technology. I will go live with the amish. I haven't tested it yet and don't know if I have the nerve to. Anyway, if anyone read this, thanks for letting me unload. What do you think is shot? The CPU? The HDs. My new ram? What's the best place to get a dirt cheap case with at least a motherboard in it?

Just tested my video card and it's ok. Problem is I cant test my MB. This accually wasnt the dumpster computer's fault. It was mine for plugging too much crap into a computer desighned for schools. (compaq evo d510)
 
Lol why didn't you just buy some old crap from someone for a couple of bucks instead of picking a computer out of a dumpster. wierd that the PSU would crash and burn though.

...you wouldn't happen to be sitting in an electricity factory or something causing overload would ya?

He put in a load of extra components and a graphics card, it isn't weird at all, if anything it was to be expected. OEM computers put crap PSUs in that are right on the edge of what they can power, they don't have much, if any, headroom, so upgrading near anything overloads it, which is what happened here most probably
 
agreed, most likely the failure was he overloaded the psu, and it simply failed, i dont know if it would take out other components but it is a possiblity, you could try a new psu at this point and hope for the best, but no promises on that venture.
 
Even if the graphics card is fried, since it's brand new it should be under warranty and it shouldn't be hard at all to get a replacement.
