power supply brand name?

I shopped around some. One thing I learned is you basically get what you pay for. Big claims and cheap price don't necessarily impress me. I read a few reviews and found that the Ultra brand is pretty good. The only hit it took in the reviews was that is wasn't one of the cheapest ones to operate. Used more electricity. Not a problem as far as I was concerned. Another top brand I considered was the Antec. I decided on Ultra because of its features. I was building a gaming PC with a windowed case. The cables are modular and UV reactive. They are also shiny with cool finishes. My particular model has the 120 mm fan that makes it quiet. Also a cool blue glow coming through a window on the PSU itself. The price was right too. Got it off of ebay. 550w infinity. Seasonic, Tagan, Enermax, Nexux are all also good makes with True watt PSU's:)

Stay well away from Q-Tec and I haven't had a very good score from Jeantech either:)
 
Antec has been a winning ticket on most builds here for some time. OCZ models generally have the universal fit on the power connections including BTX connectors for server models. Enermax once had the gamer in mind. But lately there have been some complaints being heard.
 
It is tough to pick a top brand, you really have to go by price range as well, because like seasonics are great psus but rather expensive, antec are good psu's in the midrange, and for like low price range HEC and sparkle are excellent companies, in fact HEC used to make antec psus and at like tiger direct you can pick up a 585 watt HEC psu for $30. :D But really any of the other companies listed are good. :cool:
 
I used to sell HEC PSUs. They're great. I think I still have one around here somewhere.

Yes I do. I'll be. It's in one of the other computers. An HEC 350-LD-T. That think is ancient and it's still going strong, powering a P4 system.
 
For brute quality and power, PC P&C. If we are talking about price, Ultra, Enermax, Antec and some others make great PSUs
 
i go more by specs than i do power supply. rosewill sells a very high quality power supply for the money though. i just bought a 600watt psu for $80 or so, just happened to be a rosewill.

just make sure its got dual 12V at high amperage ratings, enough wattage, and active PFC.
 
I'm afraid it's not always that simple. Many companies use different OEMs to make different PSUs, meaning that some of their models differ vastly in quality from others. Thermaltake, Raidmax and Ultra are just some of many companies that do this. A few reliable ones:

Antec
Enermax
FSP (Fortron)
OCZ
PC Power & Cooling (Turbo-Cool series are often regarded as the best available)
Seasonic
Silverstone
Tagan
XClio
Zippy/Emacs

There are, of course, many others.

The issue, in that regard, is the reliability of the specs. Many cheaper units won't live up to them. The available specs will never give you the full story on a PSU anyway. For a high-end system, a PSU with a proven track record is the best choice.

I can certainly agree there after building enough systems with one brand supply. When you order a case with a supply included watch out there. Unless you know the supply is a good make don't trust those to be any good. Having a good supply installed that is stable and doesn't have drop offs when you put a good load it is as important as the wattage.
