I'm planning to get two HD4770s for Crossfire but I'm not sure what PSU I need to get. I know you need 500W for one 4770 tho.:confused:

PLEASE HELP!!!

Most sites claim around 600W minimum for two cards, but dont indicate the amps. My guess would be around 35 amps on the 12V rail minimum.

Do you mean the card itself draws 500W or that that's what is recommended? The box for my old GX2 said a minimum of a 500W PSU but the card actually draws 280W if I remember correctly. I'm sure that 500W rating is so that you have enough power for the card and all your other components.

Never skimp in the PSU area. Go with as big as your budget will allow. For dual cards, and low-ish end ones at that, you could probably get away with a good high end 550w PSU. I wouldn't get anything below 600w personally and everything after that is gravy.

I know this isn't your question, but you're better off buying one mid-high range card than CFing two low end cards for the same price and less power draw. Unless you already own one of them, or are getting some kind of deal on them, get a 4870 instead or something in that price range. Then you won't have to worry about all the headaches that come with Xfire and you'll get better performance. Just my two cents.

I would look for something such as the ocz GameXStream 700W, Corsair 650TX, or a 750W Pc power & cooling silencer.

500W minimun is for a system as a whole (average). You can look at it this way. By the connectors. A PCIe 1.0 slot only gives out 75W, 2.0 is up to 100W I believe. A 6 pin PCIe connector is 75W and a 8 pin is 150W.

So you can add it up pretty easy as to the max amount of watts a card can pull regardless of model.

well i've seen this review about how 2x 4770 actually beats a 4890 while still being cheaper so thats what i want to get:
