Power supply problem

I've been having a problem with the fans "cycling" (adjusting in speed up and down considerably without me adjusting them). I believe that my power supply is having power surges but I'm not sure. The power supply is plugged into a power surge protector strip so it's not coming from that. My power supply is an ATX-AS500W. 115/230v, 10/5a, 50-60Hz. I also have been having problems playing some of my new games (F.E.A.R. for example). The computer keeps saying that it doesn't have enough power for the game card. Suggestions???

I had the same problem...OK, listen carefully. THis is what you do: Find a sledgehammer and hit the top of your tower as hard as you can atleast ten times. THe sledgehammer has to be atleast 20 lbs. or this won't work. Good luck!

What's your graphics card and what's the +12V rail rated at (it should be printed on the side of the PSU). If your graphics card needs external power that's not plugged in, that could be the cause of that message, otherwise your PSU probably just isn't powerful enough (or is defective).

Graphics card is Nvida GeForce 5900 Ultra

Oh dear... the 5900s are known to require a LOT of power. Get a good PSU like the PC Power and Cooling Silencer 470 or Fortron FSP530-60PLN. Aspire PSUs are not known to be so great.
