power supply?

okay the computer in the school music department just stopped working and i think it is the power supply. as soon as you hit the power button, nothing happens, the fan doesnt even turn over. i know it is not the power because the computer is recieving power. is there any way to fix this without having to buy a new power supply? it is quite urgent that the computer be fixed resonably soon and the school technition is pretty hopeless

it might not be the power supply. Something could be shorting the power supply out, like if the mobo is touching the case. Check the power cable going to the mobo. make sure it is on there securely.

unplug the 20 pin supplier, take a paperclip and stick one end in green pin and one end in the black pin. Then turn the psu on. If it doesn't turn on then you'd know the psu is busted.

wow gee thats a new one i have never heard of that before but i will give it a go is there any chance of wrecking it more because it is not my computer

no, I've done it many times, just don't put the pin too hard orelse you might physically damage it.

theres 1 green and like 4 black which black to do it in or doesnt it matter
