okay my power supply keeps on dying on me and i figured i should get a new one (this computer is 6 months old)

the power supply is only 250 for what i was running which was...
4 monitors (crt)
2 7port usb hubs
and in the last two day it shut off 4 times and I am wondering what would be a good power supply under $40.00?

The number of monitors isn't so important as the video card that is sending video to them, but 250 is way too low for any modern system.

I'd recommend this one:

Many people will shoot this down, because, truth is, HEC definitely HAS made some shitty power supplies in the past, but I'll still stand by that this is the best power supply for the money. I have bought six of them to date, used them in several builds, with no problem at all. The one in my machine right now is getting on a year old, and I've used it in two different machines. Right now it's powering 5 hard drives, 2 cathodes, a lighted fan, another fan, 2 DVD burners, a GeForce 7600GT with 2 monitors, NIC, floppy, zip drive, and CPU + fan with not a single problem.

Trust me, it's worth it.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, it has 2 fans too, so it pushes a decent amount of air as well.

I urge you to go with the HEC 585w... it's by far the best bang for the buck. It comes with 6 molex, 2 floppy, 1 SATA, one 4 pin mobo connector and a 20+4 mobo connector. It also comes with a molex to 2 x SATA adapter and a molex to 6-Pin PCI-E adapter. Plenty for any system, but I'm using a couple extra molex to sata adapters and a molex Y cable as well with no problems at all.

are you suggesting that it could be the video card that is the problem and not the power supply. my video card is an ati radeon X300se 128mb vga dvi and tv out or whatever... i dont really game i just play counter strike and sometimes source. could i have like messed up the card by running dual monitors on it or was it the psu?

would this be a good card to get?

No that would not be a good card to get. 1st off, more monitors doesn't really take draw more power from the PSU. the monitors use their own power connectors. 2nd of all, you can't really do physical damage to a video card by running dual monitors, the most that it can do is mess up the drivers, and that can be solved by reinstalling them. And last of all, I wouldn't recommend getting any of the previously listed PSU's except the Antec one.

ha well i already bought the orion one because it had 585 watts basically and im going to die without my baby :(
It really doesn't have any pattern the first time it did this is when I had two monitors and played cs on one and had AIM on the other one. When I had three (for a few weeks) it shut off 3 or 4 times in one day and I just shut it off.

plus the orion has 5 stars and good reviews and the guy above said he used it in 7 builds? or something
