I'm building a custom computer.

p4 3.6
300gb hard drive
2gb ram
256mb graphic card vga

when I turned on the computer for the first time for bios, the computer it's like the powe turns off after a few seconds, the heatsiink fan stops, but the green light stays on.

it turns off right ater I see the bios start up screen.

Any sugguestions what it might be? It's all new

Could be a something shorting the power out !? try removing the mobo and repositioning it again in the case. Also you wanna check out the PSU and make sure its not faulty.

This time I tried a diferrent case. The power stays on longer, but I get this message:

Insert Boot media in boot device press any key to continue

after that power doesn't really turn off, its like tyhe motheboard shuts down while the power light is still on.

what does that mean?

I had that same message once and the problem was with the settings of the jumpers. I had to take the DMA jumper(or something similar) out of my DVD drive.

I don't have the dvd drive set up, none of the media drives.

Could that be it? Or something with by hard drive?

As you can tell i'm a rookie at this.

Could it be that it is trying to boot from something? Have you got the DVD or CD drive set up.

Also have you put the HDD in?

I recently installed my dvd/cd writer, still no luck. Hard drive is installed.

I tried it on two different pc cases, now I think my mother board is shot. No power anymore.

Only if I had a digital camera, I could upload pictures..
