Powerbook or Windows Laptop?

I'm currently a high school senior and will be going to Penn State next fall for a degree in Information Sciences and Technology. I'd really like to get a Mac computer, as I've been intrigued with them for years. The only problem is that I'm assuming Penn State is completely (or almost) Windows-based, and that I wouldn't be able to run required applications on a Powerbook. Does anyone by chance know if I could use a Mac if I'm going for an IST degree?
 
There are software emulators for the Mac. You can actually run Windows and UNIX (Mac OS X Panther is Unix based anyway) right on a Mac. I do not know the limitations of the software, but I do know it exists. Apple finally took a giant step in the right direction with OS X. If I had the money, and my job did not revolve around PC's, I would take a look at one of the new Macs.

You should try and find out from Penn State what kind of computer, if any, you need. I would imagine they would be able to help you.
 
get a powerbook and just get microsoft office 2003 for it.

and an emulator but that would slow down your comp but im not sure how much it would by

I agree it will slow down the computer, but a friend of mine who has a less than top-of-the-line Mac said the sluggishness was minimal. You WILL notice the difference if you try and play games or run any kind of Java App.

Virtual PC is the product name... and of course.... Microsoft bought it.... lol



And Office 2004 is out for the Mac already.
 
I recently bought a laptop a "Power House Laptop" ZD7000 through HP it was about $2022 with a 3 year full warranty a similar laptop through Apple was $2999.

You decide.

you decide what? buy a winblows laptop ? from a company that doesnt even have the best quality (not parts but breakdown etc).

People who are interested in apples know they pay a tad bit more for the osx but its worth it in the end
