Powercolor Radeon 9800 PRO Probs!

Gday,
Ive had this annoying problem with my graphics card for about a year now and I thought its about time I asked around to see if anyone knows what to do.
Ok..After I bought the card I thought it was the best of the best, or close to, as it cost around AUD$460. It worked out nicely for about a year, but then games started coming out and my computer was unable to cope with the kind of resolutions i had been running them at.
I then started looking for a program in which i could increase my clocking speeds with. The first prog i found was ATITools, which worked quite well for about a month, then SmartGart started kicking in and restarting my GPU and then it kept asking me to restart my comp.
That was really starting to p**s me off.
I then thought that my comp (a dell at the time) couldnt handle the card or the games i wanted to play, so I decided to make my own comp. I made it well(i think;) with an Abit AV8 mobo and AMD64 3000+. I was over the moon at the way my new comp was running and no restarting.\
But like all good things, they must fail.
The same thing started happening.
I then removed the sock cooling system and installed a nice zalman system.
Also i installed Omega Drivers and ATI Tray Tools.
Installing TrayTools removed my annoying problem but also created another.
It now lasted around 25-30mins gaming before making an anoying beep through my speakers and locking up the system.
Since then the only way i can play games for over 10 mins is to lower my graphics to 800x600x16bit and less and putting all settings on low.
I have sufficient cooling and ventilation in my case, and a new cpu fan, The Coolermaster Beetle.
Iam not sure if my card is overheating, but all the signs point the fact that it is.
Thankyou for reading my thesis on my comp :D

Please help me:confused:

btw, yes I have overclocked using ATItraytools and ATItool
could this have been my problem?

actually overclocking isn't that dangerous... overvolting is. btw did you install the zalman on the CPU or the GPU?
if you put it on the gpu, then installing it wrong could be causing this problem.
try running prime95 to test if its the cpu, and 3dmark05/06 to see if its the video card. then, run memtest86 to test if its the ram. whatever locks up your computer, or returns an error, that'll tell you whats wrong.
filext says this will view it:
http://www.download.com/All-Image/3000-2242-10401042.html?part=dl-AllImage&subj=dl&tag=button
^prime95 for cpu
http://www.memtest86.com/
^memtest (for memory obviously)
http://www.futuremark.com/products/
^3dmark06 and 3dmark05
i suggest you run both 3dmarks because my computer freezes during 3dmark05 if i have an unstable overclock because my psu cant powerr, but not during 3dmark06... duno why.
3dmark stress all parts... but mostly GPU

Overclocking isn't dangerous? How come it increases heat and reduces your processors life span then?

Even though there is a minimal risk in just overclocking, you can't say that it isn't dangerous, because in reality there is some danger to go along with it.

If you have the money go for 7800GS and you´ll be fine with it for a lon time since it´s the best AGP card and you do have AGP socked for graphics cad. Othervise go for used 6800 ULtra since they are becomming very cheap.

sure, but only if you overclock your gpu to like 1ghz core. and even some people get away with that on water + a volt mod. :D those people care enough though lol
and truthfully... a higher frequency doesn't increase heat that much... just instability. if you make it too unstable to start the computer... then sure, you wrecked it. most motherboards have ways around this though... its called clear cmos.
and coolbits says that you can hold down CTRL when the computer starts, and it'll keep coolbits from overclocking the card.

do you realize that the 6800ultra is no longer being sold in the market? a 6800 series card is a good card though. the ultra isn't available though.

Used 6800 Ultra i said :D Theres plenty of them on the market and they are cheap now! Go and buy yourself 6800 Ultra if you are using AGP..
