Hi to everyone,
I have a problem we are buying an new powerful workstation to share here at my office for heavy calculation...now the problem is:

we are using on each computer windows 7...and we want to connect to the workstation by desktop remote to run the analysis...and we should do this all together (so with windows 7 it is not possible to be connected all together ...) ....so what version of windows we should install on the workstation? windows server 2008 r2?

p.s. it is not possible, for the programs that we are using to install linux or other OS...only windows

thanks so much

Just remembered, you'll want Windows 7 Pro to host a remote desktop connection...home premium can't.

Windows 7 can do it, and would be more cost effective, however it won't be as good as having multiple systems connected to it as Server 2008 will. I'm not even going to try to claim to know the ins and outs of the Microsoft Server software, however do know that it has some invaluable features which 7 doesn't, such as being able to do near enough anything with rebooting (With the exception of kernal updates of course), can manage resources across several user much better, Smart-NTFS, basically a load of features to prevent downtime...

If you go for 7, it will work fine, but make sure you get at least professional, for remote desktop, as drenlin says, as well as for the max memory, because anything less than professional can only use up to 16GB of memory, where are pro and above has up to 192GB
