Pre-build? or custom? for home entertainment.

Hey all! New to the forum here. I've been really wanting to buy a second PC to connect to my tv, for watching blu-ray movies, tv shows online, netflix online, and playing games.

I want to spend the least money possible and have a nice setup. Looking to spend between 500 and 800... but trying to decide between a name brand build vs. custom. I've been looking on tiger direct.

this pre-build looks like everything I would want, but then I saw the power supply and was like WTF? 220 watt how is that even possible to run properly with all the components?

Also interested in custom, but dont know how to put a computer together. Would it still be worthwhile to pay someone to do it if I order the parts? And what minimums would I need to be able to watch 1080p video with no hiccups?

if you want to get that computer than go for it. if u cant build it dont bother getting someone else to build it for u. u can order the parts and we can walk u through the build if u want however
 
You likely could buy that system and buy a good power supply to replace the low quality power supply that comes with it. Sometimes computer cases are shaped in such a way as to not let you replace the power supply with another. I don't think this is the situation with this Hewlett Packard.

How much is someone else going to charge you to put the parts together for you?
 
hey guys thanks for the replies! Unfortunately I was under the impression that it would be easy to find someone thru a friend that could put it together for me cheaply. This doesnt seem to be the case tho. I know enough about what to buy, as far as compatability goes, but I have never put a system together and have no idea how to connect anything.

i guess buying the name brand build would be the way to go for me. as far as the HP, my issue with the small power supply isnt necessarily weather I would need to replace it, more just a matter of if it only needs such a small PS then how good of a system can it really be? I guess the benefit of the name brand build would be that I wouldnt have the hassle of making sure everything would work together. Since it already has a blu-ray player installed it would be all good to go I would guess.

So you think it'd be worth the money? Any better alternatives?
 
man.. i dunno.. sounds fun and rewarding. just dunno if i got the time. either way i guess i cant go wrong :D
 
It is fun, especially the first time... you get a great deal of knowledge too. Sholdn't take too long, the hardest thing is trying to get those damn pushpins in on stock coolers... and maybe cable management.
 
Go to your local PC store, ask them how much it cost for them to build it for you if you get all component ready.
Then compare to company like avadirect/ ibuypower/ cyberpowerpc to see who is more expensive.
