Preparing for the NBN (aus)

Hi everyone,

I thought we could do with a thread to share people's plans for their NBN connection (when it eventually/hopefully arrives)!

My plan is to network the entire house to make the best use of the service. I'm looking into hard-wiring the four main rooms in my house with cat6a cables, and having four ports in each room for a total of 16 ports. I'm planning to have a cabinet/rack in the same room as my NBN equipment, which will house a 24port patch panel, a 24port gigabit switch (TL1024D or equivalent), and a wireless router (yet to be determined, but must have detachable antenna). To make sure I get the best wireless signal throughout the house i'm planning to detach the antenna from the router and run an extension cable into the roof space so that the aerial is at the most central part of the house.

What are your thoughts on this plan, and do you have any plans of your own?

My mum's place got the fibre laid recently. We do plan to move over...

I'd ask her to get at least one ethernet port in each room but I know she'll never accept the cost of it...
