Prescott 3.4ghz won't stop freezing

I've been having nothing but trouble with this computer. It is a P4 3.4ghz and we all know that this is a hot processor. But, that actually doesn't seem to be what is causing the freezes. Nevertheless I applied artic silver thermal paste and reinstalled the heatsink. Its running between 45-65 degrees C. It is hot but I've read other threads about it and its not that uncommon to be so hot. So then i thought it was the ram, so I bought new ram. I updated all of my drivers, including sound, video, a new bios for the motherboard (which i think is the bad hardware) and set my 7950gt back to factory clock settings. It still freezes more than ever. I haven't installed anymore programs so I was hoping if anyone knew anything about testing a motherboard to see if it is bad. I have a intel D915PBL mobo

Thank you for your help

how long have you had that pc? did you clean the dust out of the heat sinking? if not clean it and it should make your temp lower.

my old p4 1.5ghz freezes alot when the temp get around 60c.

Yeah I cleaned it pretty obsessively. I tried it out today with a different heatsink which was brand new. both are socket 775 which arent that great. I'll take another look just in case though

Thanks for the reply

oh yeah , I've had it since december. But its been used before. So whenever those were hott stuff is when it is from. I think 2004...
