hey, im building a new comp to be used for gaming, and was wondering if a 3.0 prescott pentium 4 would be good, and also wondering about the advantages of a dual core or athlon processor

I ahve the same chip

it runs ok but i think i would consider an AMD if i did it again

i get some lag on games like empire earth 2 when theres tons of stuff going on

other than that i am satisfied with it

athlon processors are generally better at gaming. Dual core processors multitask better than single cores but unless the game is multithreaded it won't make much difference. And if you're gonna use that computer only for gaming you might wana get an amd 64.

which amd 64

i just searched for amd 64 on newegg, and i was wondering which one to get, because the running speed all lower than intel p4's (2.0 ghz compared to 3.0 for around $150), is there some reason for that or what?

amd's clock speed is lower because it processes more information per clock cycle...or something like that.

and what's your budget?

so what which amd 64 would be good

so what level of th eamd 64 would be good enough for first person shooters, and strategy games like Rome Total War, but also under $180?

that 3200+ venice

ok here is a result with the 3200+ venice from earlier, but right below it is another that is 3 more dollars, but it says runs .2 ghz faster, wouldnt that be worth the money?

wow

hm wow thanks. well ill be going with that one then, and ive now found out i definately need to check on all my stuff so i dont make a stupid mistake like i could have there. thanks to all that helped, i really appreciate it!
