previously fine now running hot

for the last 3 day my cpu has been idleing at high temperatures. It is currently at 60 drgrees witht the side off and a fan blowing on it. Previously it has been running fine but the last three days its been bad. The current temperature is about 36 degrees c here so im not sure weather the temperature of the room is having an effect or if something is wrong with the heat sink/fan. I am using the stock cooler that can with the chip

i have just had my computer turned off for an hour. i left the side off and kept the fan blowing on it to cool it down but as soon as i turn it on again the temp is straight to 60, wtf!!!!

The temp of the room can and will affect the temp of the computer. The warmer the air outside the warmer the air inside also. If you are using the stock cooler I would say maybe one of the push pins came out and the cooler is sitting on the cpu cock-eyed. Give it a little wiggle and see if it my be loose. I have a cooler with push pins and it's happened to me a couple times. Just pull it off and re-apply TIM and re-attach the cooler and see what you get. Also check all case fans for operation...maybe one decided it was time to quit. Write back and let us know what happened.

Temp straight to 60c as soon as you turn it on....something is wrong. Stock Intel coolers are not great but they are better than that.

ok well i check to see if the heat sink was loose but it was solid. So does that mean that I need to take it off and reaply thermal paste? or could the heat sink be faulty? it is still under waranty so i can get it replaced if need be

A Coolermaster 690 is one of the best cooling cases you can buy(I am waiting for my Nvidia edition now!) What program are you using to monitor temps? 45nm processors are hard to get accurate temps sometimes. I have had 5 different programs open at one time and got a temp range of 20c from lowest to highest!

Where do you have the stock cooler fan plugged into? The motherboard or a drop from the power supply?

If you have some TIM already it might be a good idea to re-apply. The biggest mistakes people make when attaching a heatsink is applying too much TIM and not cleaning it good before. I use just a BB size drop right in the middle of the processor. The goal is to make it an ultra thin layer between the two metal surfaces. I am obsessed with keeping my temps low...:)

This is a 3 hour burn for my processor

I am using Asus AI Suite to monitore the temperature, it is the program that game with my motherboard. is there another program that you would recomend? My heatsink was installed for me so I had assumed that the thermal paste would had been done corectly, however I have some arctic silver 5 here that I will try to apply later

I have re-applied the thermal paste, I used arctic silver 5, so I will see how much of a differance that makes. I will post a picture of what the cpu and heat sink looked like before i did the thermal paste can someone tell me if it looks like it was the problem:
