Print Server Advice

How do these actually work?

I have a canon LBP-660 laser printer which is not supported in XP. It is connected to a single machine via a parallel cable. It used to work in XP using the 2000 driver, but no longer does. Since googling, I have found that a recent window update is to blame.

If I was to use a print server, I would still need an xp compliant driver on the XP machines wouldn't I?? The print server doesn't have the drivers built into them does it?
 
Thanks - that is the one I have been looking at, but I thought you still needed to install compatible print drivers onto all the computers?

I have my printer hooked to my other computer, across the house, and I just went to Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, Add New Printer and browsed for it. No drivers installed, of course, it is USB.
