Printer Error

As soon as I turn on my Canon MX870, the little screen says "printer error," unplug printer and contact service center. The yellow alarm light and orange copy light flash intermittently as well.

Any advice? No idea what to do to go about getting it to work again.
 
Does it say B200 up top? If so, you have a bad printhead and you need a new printer.
 
If it is a B200 follow the steps I've listed below

  • Open the printer top
  • Remove ink cartridges
  • Uninstall printhead
  • Clean back of the printhead pins with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Make sure the pins are 100% clear.
  • Turn off printer by unplugging it. (don't use the power button)
  • Make sure pins are clean on the printhead
  • Install printhead and THEN the cartridges
  • Plug back in
  • Turn printer on
Had to do this on my MX860 when we got the cartridges refilled and it thought they were still out.

If the code still persists, it means you'll need a new printer :(
