My system info:

Printer:
HP R-40 All-in-One Inkjet

Dell Dimension 4100 Series
Pentium III at 933 MHz
128 SDRAM at 133 MHz
20.4 GB 7200 rpm Hard-drive
Windows ME
Word 2000 SR-1

Problems Printing Images:
The image shifts about 1mm about every centimeter—as if it were printed in bands that shift side to side, though generally to the right down the page.

Problems Printing Text:
Some words or lines of text print bold even though all of the text is regular weight. Some letters or words print double images.

When printing align cartridge pages, A (vertical alignment) is fine, B & C (alignment side to side) is off and cannot be corrected with this function.

Problems Copying:
Images or texts shifts in bands as described in printing images above.

HP Tech Support’s suggestions have not helped.

Thank you!

What has HP sugested so far?

Try getting the latest driver for that printer

I'm not sure if your model has the option, but open the properties window for the printer and look for a "Head Alignment" option/tool. If you find it then run it and it wil perform a calibration of the head.

Also try removing the cartridge then reinserting it.... NOTE this may reset the usage count and make it think its a full cartridge.

P.S. Have you considered updating to Windows 2000 or XP?

If your right click on your printer icon, and go to properties, there usually should be a "align and clean cartridges" icon, try that out, or try taking out your cartridges out and putting them back in, maybe they are completely out of place

Thank you to everyone for your help!
I've tried:
--Aligning the cartridges four times
--Cleaned the cartridges, rollers, etc.
--Reinstalled the drivers; there are no new drivers from HP
It may be time to buy a new printer?
Thanks again!
