Printer Problem

My neighbor emailed this to me today:

I have had weird rather strange things happening with my printer at home. I have had to uninstall and reinstall my printer twice with in the last two weeks. It’s like it disappears into thin air. On Tuesday I used it to print out payroll and than last night Danny went to use it and the printer wasn’t even listed on the list of options to print from. So I go into my control panel and click on printers and sure enough my printer isn’t listed.

I replied and got this back:

Here’s another thing, when I tried to scan Tuesday night it said scanner not avail, the thing is turned on but still says not avail. Now I just go done printing payroll…. So I go into programs and this Microsoft office scanner thingy is there? (where that came from I don’t know) so I used it, it worked so I was happy. The strange thing is I never saw that program and that type of format before but than I never scanned anything before Tuesday night. This is the same printer I have a work and only one time have I had to uninstall and reinstall but never had any problems with the scanner, copier or printer working correctly.

I have had this problem before on an old hunk of junk Dell. It turned out to be a Virus. Have them head over to the Security section on this forum and post a hijackthis log for someone to examine.
