printer problem

sorry if this is in the wrong place didnt know where it should go, the only reason i put it here is that the problem is between a laptop and a printer, but i have discounted the printer i think!!!
i have an epson stylus photo r240 and an acer aspire 7735z which have been communicating with each other fine until recently... all of a sudden anything i try to print doesnt, i pkug in another computer and try to print the same thing it does print, if i print a test sheet just using the controls on the printer it prints fine no probs,
i have tried deleting and adding the printer, the only problem i had doing this was i couldnt access the driver from the epson site......just sat there doing nothing aying it was trying to dwonload, eventually did a google search and found the driver alsewhere loaded it no difference.
the other strange thing is that if i set something to print and then turn the compuiter off and on again sometimes on startup it prints the document, its almmost as if on strtup when the puter is checking all the ports etc it finds somehting that needs to go to the printer and sends it....but the rest of the time......nah
i have the printer on usb 001 it does say virtual usb001 not sure if thats relative.
i really would appreciate any help please, sorry to ramble on but have tried to get as much info in as possible.
thanks
Bill

update,
not sure if this means anything but in device manager it shows the usb port(that the printer is connected to) as having epson stylus storage usb device attached to that usb port, its not showing up as a printer any ideas why not
thanks
Bill

If it's and old meaning over three years old,i would put it out for the trash men to haul off.
Now go buy a nice new H.P. printer, they are great and many sales on them at all stores.
Why spend your life trying to fix a printer that just won't be fixed.;)

i understand what you are saying but its a good printer(when it works) and i have just purchased a load of cartttridges for it so a bit annoying if it has to go, i just cant understand why it has stopped working

Try installing the printer on a different computer to see if it still works correctly. If it does, then it may be time to do a fresh install of windows on your laptop. If it does the same thing on the different computer that it does on your laptop then get a new printer.

it works ok on another computer i have checked that. how do i reinstall windows i never had a disk with the laptop

Laptops usually have a recovery partition that you boot to that resets the laptop back to the day you got it. Do you have any owners manual that explains how to do it. It's usually Alt-f10 for acers i think, or just try f10, It should tell you when its posting what button to press for system recovery. If you have important data you will need to back it up before doing it because you will lose all data on the laptop.
