Printer Problems

The store I currently work for needed a printer for a single computer in the back. The owner brought a bunch down from the attic that were part of an old network the store once had. He said there was nothing wrong with them when he put them up there, but every one I tried left darkened the whole page and left streaks in places. I called the company and the customer service guy had me clean the drum (round thing on the cartridge) and the glass part in the printer itself. This didn't help. Before I take them in is there anything else I can try? The printer model is a Brother HL-1440 Laser Printer.

How long has the printer been upstairs? It sounds like the drum might have gotten damaged... And with the Brother lasers, the drum is separate, and when that goes down, you mine as well purchase a new printer. You can get some good cheap ones for about $100...

Oh, and Brother laser printers are very good, just that one problem with the drum... It's a good brand to go with if you need a cheap, low-end printer; the toner is cheap and machines are reliable, if you use them fairly consistently (as with any printer... :))

It was up there a while. They were in good condition when they were put into storage. The store had a new company come in to install all the computers and they put in their own printers as well. Ironically, they were also Brothers, just a slightly newer model with no real difference.

Yeah, printers are just like cars, you don't want to go without using them for extended periods, and you want to make sure that if you need to store them, do it in a cool, clean and dry place.
