Printer Recommendation

Hey everyone! I was wondering if you guys could help me pick out a good printer. I just got accepted to pharmacy school and from what I hear I will printing A LOT of stuff throughout the years. I guess I need something thats pretty efficient on ink and will not cost me an arm and a leg to replace the cartridge. I'm also in the market for a new laptop and will probably be looking into a Dell, if that helps at all.

Thanks a lot!!

1. - Budget on Printer?
2. - No dell!!!! We here will recommend you a laptop.
3. - Laptop Budget?
4. - Where are you in the world

What's your budget on the printer?
What features do you need? For exampe copy scan fax?
Like cohen said, where do you live?

Not sure what's an ideal printer since I've never come across one that didn't eat me out of house and home. All I can suggest is keep in mind what sorts of features you want (like Jhow said): Do you want just a printer, or a scanner included? A photocopier combined? Bonus keychain and voucher?

I've got a Canon PIXMA MP150 and to be quite fair; whether the ink evaporates or Canon likes the money I may never know. I pay $60 for cartridge that prints less than a dozen sheets before screaming for mercy. But if I were to remove the cartridge, would it stain my clothes? Oh yes, definitely, because there's still half a litre in the little suckers.

Sorry about the lack of info! I went ahead and started another thread in the appropriate forum about the laptop.

As far the printer, I really don't need any other features besides printing. And I wouldn't mind shelling out some cash now for it, if it will save me in the long run. I have four long years of printing LOTS of stuff.

I live in Jacksonville, FL by the way.

Thanks!

Might be worth getting a largish printer if you're starting a buisiness. My school has one, about a metre wide and metre high. It prints quickly enough and doesn't seem to have more trouble than multiple computers trying to print too many files and it gets a tad confused. There would be a newer model out now though anyway, wish I knew what it was.

get a laser printer if you're looking for print yield and don't need the faxing and what not. (I'm assuming you need color let me know if you don't).

This brother has a good output when you replace the toner with high yield toner (DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THE STANDARD YIELD IF YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT MONEY) It's a great quality printer and for the price range has very good page yield. There's also a 4070 that costs more with a few added features such as duplexing.

Black Cartridge:

If you want an inkjet, maybe because you're into photos but are still worried about page yield go with one in the HP OfficeJet Pro series: A $35 cartridge can get you 2000 black prints.

Post any other questions or if you see some that catch your eye post them and I'll give you my thoughts.

Toshiba or acer laptops are generally reliable for most work applications, as for a printer might be best to look into a fairly basic laser printer, just with black toner, while it will cost more initially in the long run it will save you money, and frustration since it takes a lot longer for the toner to run out than it takes for ink. Something like a HP laserjet 1020 would be my suggestion.

Okay this is laptop I decided on:

$549 after the rebates and whatnot.

I'm still looking for a printer though. I'm leaning towards this one right now, what do you guys think?

I went looking today and all the 3-n-1 types were pretty high, so I've decided that I don't really need a fax, copier and scanner. If anything I would need a scanner, but I might just look around for a really cheap used one or something. The printing is the main thing. I also have my old printer from my desktop in case I ever need to do color, so thats not an issue with the new one. Thanks again.

I posted in your laptop thread... ;)

As for a printer, if you are not needing to print in color, I would recommend a monochrome laser printer. If you take good care of a laser printer, it will give you pretty good service.

I have an HP printer at work, it's been a good printer, never any lines or any imperfections in printing.
