Printer shows a "1", but quickly returns to "0" without ever printing

When I go to the Control Panel, it says the Printer is "Ready" with a tick beside it.

Then when I send something to the printer, it quickly shows a "1" (just above the check mark - referring to the document I just sent to the printer), but after about 2 seconds, goes back to "0" and the document, therefore, never prints.

Any idea what causes this to happen?

Would this be an HP printer by chance? I've had one of my clients contact me about this. Doing a system restore fixed it temporarily before it quit again, so i'm assuming a windows update is to blame. I reinstalled windows with all updates and printer is still working.

I would suggest doing a system restore back to a day when it was working and go from there. If it stops again then most likely it was a windows update.
 
Yup - It is an HP Printer. :(

I think I'll go ahead and do a system restore. What a pain.....Oh well.
