Ok hopefully someone can help me. I am trying install my printer. It says my printer spooler system is not started. So I tried starting it by myself and I got this.
Could not start the print spooler service on local computer.
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.
I'm not sure what to do now? Thanks for any help.

you try starting it in services right?

sometime the bios has lpt1 disabled causing the computer 's ability to print.

should not matter though if you are using a usb printer.

Sounds like you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and the reminder to new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

Aren't printer problems great?! No matter brand or model or type they can get you. The main problem is getting Windows to properly detect the model you have and make the drivers active. Once done you should be able to simply press the CTRL+PRRTSCN buttons see the printer come to life.

Is this a new or older usb or parellel type printer? In the Control Panel look in the "printers and faxes" section to see if the model is listed there. If not try the add new hardware wizard and choose the select from list option for shoosing the type of device and browse to the software cd. There you can browse the drivers folder for the correct driver to highlight and have Windows install for you. If you see the model but Xed out a driver didn't go in right when first installing or is now lost and needs replacement.

I just bought this printer a couple of months ago. It is a Lexmark Z645. I have done the things you have told me too do.
I went to the printers and fax section and it was not there, so I tried the add new hardware and got this:
an error occurred during the installation of the device The RPC server is unavailable.

Are you running XP or Vista? That sounds like XP's remote file and printer sharing setting used for networking. You wouldn't want to enable that on a stand alone desktop for security reasons there. That's used when sharing files and a printer on network between multiple pcs. Make sure you don't have a firewall or antivirus program active while trying to install the software/drivers since those will hamper things.
