hey can someone help me get my printer to network... I wanna be able to see it on my home network and print off it from any computer... trouble is that right now I have to share all my docs and print them from the comp that iswired to it. can this be fixed?

give more info :
like where is the printer connected, is it shared etc..?

ok let me assume you have 2 pc's on the home network.
PC1 = hosting printer
PC2 = client that will print

step 1
Now go on pc1, go to control panel->printers & faxes-->right-click the printer and share it.
Write down the IP of PC1 and now go to pc2

Step 2
on pc2 go to start-->run. in the box type "\\XX.XX.XX.XX" (yes with the backslashes) the X's stand for the IP. so it will be like "\\10.49.1.155".
click ok.
A dialog box will open showing the shared contents of PC1, locate the printer, right-click it and-->connect.
Now just go to the Control Panel and set it as default and print away.

I hope the instructions wasn't too hard

slight issue... my IP addresses are obtained automatically through the modem for my internet.... how can I get an address..... also the printer is connected to the main computer in the house, and I want to connect it hrough the modem to 2 seperate comps in the bedrooms... hope that helps thanks

ok, So DHCP is enabled on your modem. try setting yourself a Static Ip. Is that possible for you?

It will still work as your modem will give you a IP for a certain amount of time, if you submit your self a IP, that one will just be taken off the DHCP's list.

Just keep it within your DHCP Range

Eg, Say your Modem gives your an Ip of

10.20.12.1 to 10.20.12.99

Then, give yourself a ip somewhere in that range.

I would recommend using the lower range, purely as its easier to remember.

Try that, then repost.

so instead of having the modem auto slelct my IP I need to set up an IP myself??? Static IP is not possible with my internet

Have you tried going into Control Panel
Network Connections
Create new connection

Then just making a LAN Connection, not a Internet one?
