i just learned about this today. at first i was skeptical as im sure all you are right now. so i went home and on my hp color laserjet 2605dn i printed out a page, scaned it, filtered it, and then zoomed it and i got this.

I have the full version if you still dont believe me. anyway as you see that is repeting. That is taken maybe from a 1.5 by 1.5 inch piece but i dont know.
I mean i dont care too much that my info may be geting out but what i do care about is how this is useing my ink, they never told me about it and... well it is mostly how i pay $80 for a cartrage and some of it goes to somethign i dont want it to.

Tell me what you think and if your printer does it too

I saw this on CSI. They track where the ransom note was printed from by narrowing down their suspects and printers. Turns out that the secretary did have sex with the married man and they killed the baby to break up the marriage.

I completely believe it. I did not know that the government uses it, i thought it was just that every printer head is unique. Just like car paints, no to paints are ever the same. Also when you sock your living room wall really hard, you need to do over the whole wall, a patch wall does not look that great.

funny this thread should show up, i only just read this somewhere the other day....i didnt believe it at first. I discussed it with some of our IT folks and they had never heard of it either.
I mean most printers in the world are lazer and black and white. But if this is an anti counterfiet thing then i guess it makes sence.

interesting........i always heard it also applies to dvd burners that leave a signature. i heard they can track it if bought with a check or credit card.

Yeah but who ever uses a color laser to counterfit should not even live anymore. i mean the quality is ok, but you can tell because it is shiny
