Pro Tools question

So my roommate is a radio broadcast major and a big part of it is using pro tools to record and playback audio. He wants to install this on his laptop, a Lenovo y570. (i5, 555m, 8GB of RAM) On the requirements, it says:

Audio Drive Requirements: One or More Hard Disk Drives Dedicated for Audio Record and Playback.

Would this just be a performance thing? Like when you record video games with fraps and need to set the videos to be stored somewhere else.

If he does need to do this, could he just create a new partition and have that dedicated as a drive? I know he'll need to reinstall windows to create the partition, but would it be possibly? If not, how about an external drive? Thanks guys.

Pro Tools does require a dedicated hard disk for saving files. Pro Tools files are MASSIVE in size especially once you start getting plugins and multiple channels going. I would say that laptop is going to struggle with it to be honest.
