Probably a stupid question

im goingto the computer shop tomorrow and i dont want to say anything stupid im looking to stick more ram in i not sure but when your buying more ram say its a 256mb sdram and it puts out about 400mhz is that 400 added on to your processer clocking speed this is the info i have about it:

i have no idea if this has anything to do with it also i have 4 ram slots 2 are filled with 256mb cards would i only be able to put one more in safely?

The speed of the ram doesnt add on to your cpu (computer) speed. The computer speed just determines how fast the computer can process things. Your rams speed, determines how fast it can read from the memory.

If you have 4 ram slots, you can add ram to each slot, up to tha maximum that your mother board supports, like maybe 3 or 4 gigs.

512Mb, 1024MB or 2048MB per slot. (for recent mobos)

Im going to quess these.

First is FSB - Front side bus;
Second is Maximum CPU speed mobo can suport
Third is Actual CPU clock speed

So you have a P4 at 2.6Ghz with a 266x10 multiplier

Use CPU-z (find it in yahoo) and post a screen shot.

If you are able to plug out a RAM stick out of your computer and go to the shop with it so that you ask for a similar one in bus speed, this would be helpful. If you can't un-plug one, just make sure that you are buying one at the same speed.

You seem to have a new Mobo, so most of the RAMs out there will work with you. Don't just worry, they stop the production of old RAM types, so you won't find it out there on the market.
