Probably dumb question....

So, I had a few games on my Windows XP machine that i liked, and now that the hard drive failed, I decided to build a computer from scratch. I want to get a bunch of older nostalgic games as well as some more up to date games. I was wondering if Vista Ultimate (32 and 64 bit) is backwards compatible freindly? A brief glimpse of what i want to get:

Sim City 2000
Sim City 4
Civilization 3
Warcraft 3
Counter Strike Source
COD4

Just a sample of stuff, My biggest concern is Civilization and Sim City 2000 (Best Sim City IMO) not being compatible with the newest OS...I've had similar issues with other Windows in the past... Thanks a bunch!

I can't help you with a few of the games but can tell you any Steam:Source game should go right on without hesitation. Metal of Honor: Allied Assault is one game written strictly for XP where the installer simply quits when tried. Yet an older 9X-XP game goes on without a hitch? That would Return to CastleWolfenstein.

Prey, Fear, Crysis, 007 Nightfire, and surprisingly a good number of other games will go right on a 32bit version. For one of the 64bit editions that's trial and error there for the most part trying each individually.

With each new version out the one most common complaint is the need for all new desktop softwares while games seem to fare better unless written for one version only. Gee? The original 8bit Duke Nukem running in Vista through DOSBOX?!
