Problem accessing internet

Ok i got my sisters laptop having issues accessi8ng the internet.
Here's the specs:
It's a HP dv6000 2.0ghz with windows vista 32 bit with intel centrino duo.
Connection is wireless to verizon FIOS.

The other day it went off the internet and we cannot get it back on. We have tried walking right up to the router and it still will not connect. It says "windows cannot connect to "my router""
It says "Wireless association failed because windows did not receive any response from the wireless access point"

I have both laptops (mine too) sitting side by side and am typing this thread and hers will not go online.

One thing i have noticed is there is 2 little computer screens to the left of where i select my router. Before there used to only be 1 little screen.
Not sure what that means.

Any help will be appreciated.

If you connect an ethernet cable to it does it get internet? What is the exact model of this laptop. The dv6000 is a general series of laptops. The reason i ask is that there were some issues with the wireless going out in a lot of the dv series and would need the exact model number. Look on the bottom of the laptop for a sticker with the model number listed.

the two little screens represent you connection one would be for wired and hence shown before because it was not connected the other was wireless which was connected so the icon was not shown.
First things first i would recommend hooking up via a wire to see if you have access and go from there.
what router do you have?

Ok, your laptop isn't one of the affected systems.. It was due to a defective nvidia chipset. Looks like you have an intel chipset.

What I would do now is uninstall the driver software and reboot the machine and then reinstall it.

Go into device manager and look under network adapters and tell me if it lists broadcom wireless or intel pro wireless.

wow!! i am running thread for the similar problem. My laptop (HP dv4-1120us) just stop getting connected to internet too. Dont know much on how to solve the issue but have already tried resetting the router, reinstalling the drivers(i did not uninstall the pre-existing ones though), turning of the firewall, resetting the browser to the default settings, but nothing worked. I have my ipconfig/all posted on the other thread, http://www.computerforum.com/184857-connected-network-but-no-internet-connection.html, if anyone is interested. And yep I did tried the wired connection and did get connected. While using the windows troubleshooting, it told me " the remote device or resource wont accept the connection."

Tried it and nothing. It just acts as if the internet signal faded which is really weird. When i click the router it has 4 bars of strength.

I don't know. It's still possible that the laptop may have been involved with the recall but they didn't list it.

The next thing I would try would be to do a system restore back to a day that it was working. If that don't work, you may have to delete the existing wireless connection details under manage wireless connections and try connecting again. You may also have to turn off security on the router until you can get it to connect and then turn security back on.

I have a very very good lead on my case. Its not the problem with the wireless of my laptop, but for some reason something happened and the router is blocking only my computer from accessing the internet. So could be the case for you too. Try taking your laptop to your nearby coffee shop, and connecting to their network, probably would work. let us know if it does, I gotta go post this on my thread too. Good Luck!
