Problem after upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

I have been happily running Vista Home Basic on and HP Compaq laptop and decided to upgrade to windows 7 Professional. When I came to install Office 2007 on the laptop which has 120gig hard drive I discovered that I only had 324mb of space left. Can't understand why this has happened because it wasn't a problem on Vista. Looking at programs there are 2 installs and I did have a bit of a problem on the installation. Also, when restoring the files from an external hard disk it did ask if I wanted to replace files with previous ones, as I wasn't sure I told it to keep both copies, could this have caused the problem.

Do I have to do a completely new install or does anyone have any ideas how to recover the lost storage.

Many thanks in advance for any tips.

I don't think you did an upgrade, i think you installed windows 7 in the unused portion of your drive so you have sort of a dual boot machine now. Back up any data you need saved and do a fresh install by deleting any existing partitions, then repartition and then install windows 7. If you want to go back to vista sometime, make sure you don't delete your recovery partition.
