Problem connecting to internet

I am having an issue, a clients router is located upstairs about 50 feet away from the computer, I have set up a rosewill wifi card in the machine which seems to be working fine with other networks, i am just having issues with this pc connecting to the internet, i have checked all the router settings and everything seems to be fine, the network works fine and is getting decent signal but the internet does not seem to be working at all. connecting to the neighbors internet seems to be working fine for now lol, but that is not exactly fixing the issue, i have reinstalled the driver quite a few times, and can not seem to diagnose the problem, laptop is working fine sitting right by the p.c. and the network is connected to the linksys router, vista shows a connection as local only, no internet, could this be due to the distance in between the router and the computer, it can not be more than 30 feet across and 1 story up. would adding a wifi extender help the matter at all?
your input is appreciated guys. thanks!

basic network troubleshooting

NVM my last post it sounds like you covered all of that,
if you can't see your network on "view wireless networks", then move closer,
If you do, check to make sure you it set it to have an automatic IP address and DNS,
if you can't get an IP address then it's the router's problem,
also if you really just aren't geting internet but are still getting online, make sure no odd settings are selected in explorer
