Problem downgrading laptop to XP

My uncle recently bought an HP Pavillion Entertainment Laptop model number dv6-1230us for his work. However, the software he has to run is not compatible with Vista and he has been informed that they will not be releasing a version that is. So I bought him an OEM copy of XP pro to dual boot to ensure I can find all the right drivers and such.

Well I created a new partition from Vista for the XP install to go but when i boot up the cd it keeps getting to various points of the initial phase and stopping. It acts like its getting a little farther each time, but the last time it BSOD'd and that was that. So what in the world is up with this and why wont it let me install xp?

Run memtest on the memory. Or you might have a piece of hardware that XP don't like.

I attempted to slipstream the driver into it, but I can't figure out what program to use to rip the cd to make the slipstreamed copy.

I am attempting nlite but when I try to load the cd I'm getting an error. Tried on two computers with same results, maybe the disc is bad?
