Hi,

I built my new computer a couple of months ago but now i get a strange problem.

I cant seem to find out the cause but i think it is everytime i do a number of things quickly or if i just click the mouse the screen goes black then a blue screen pops up quickly so quick i cant read the first sentance and then restart and reboots fine then it will be ok for a couple of weeks and then it will do it again. On the blue screen i think it says there was an error or something and the computer had to restart to stop causeing any damage, or something along those line i saw the word damage in the sentance, but its a page of writing on a blue background. Also the computer freezes and i have to reboot.

Does anyone know what it is and how to solve it, is it a hardware issue or windows related.

It has an AMD Athlon 64 3200+
512mb of RAM Dual channel
200 gig HD

Thanks.

It could be the "Memory Dump" error..
How many USB Ports do you have? Are you using all your USB ports?
I had simular problem a while ago and it was because of the USB port. I had my Cable Modem connected to the USB port and that was causing my computer to bring up the blue screen and then restart..

To be able to read the error message the next time it flashes up you need to disable the automatic restart function in windows XP

to do this follow these instructions:

Go to System Properties (Control Panel) - Advanced - [Startup and Recovery]Settings

Remove the checkmark from "Automatically Restart" in the System Failure section.

That should let you read the error message and note down its big long error code, from there we can do a lot more than guessing at memory errors.

Yeh its got something to do with memory i am using all the usb ports on the motherboard and theres the 2 on the adpater which i am not using.

I have done the memory diagnostic and it has come out clean i did'nt do further tests though should i have done that, but would it be due to the amount of USB cables i have got connected at the back?
