Problem installing 3TB hdd

I'm running Win 7 x64 and just installed a 3TB hdd initialized in GPT format. Unfortunately it showed around 746GB. So I updated my BIOS(Intel DP67DE mobo) and after the update, entered F2 and confirmed that the HDD is recognized as 3TB. But when I started windows, it's still 746GB. What is the problem here? I have not formatted the hdd at all.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks!

Unless the motherboard has UEFI bios then it won't see the full 3tb. I can't tell if your motherboard is UEFI or not.

Well if you partitioned it as 746GB, installed windows. Then updated the bios and the bios recognized it as 3TB. When you boot back into windows its still going to show as a 746GB partition. You will need to expand the partition to the full size. Look in disk management as see if the unallocated space shows up.

Yes, there is UEFI in the BIOS setting but since I'm using the hdd for data storage only, I don't think it's important. Anyway, I already tried enabling it and same result. I have not formatted the drive yet. There is no indication of unallocated space beyond 476GB so I'm not sure if formatting will change anything.

Is the drive empty? or is there data on it? Use disk management to delete existing partiton and then partition the whole thing as one big drive.

It's empty. Brand new. I've uninitialized with diskpart yet it still shows 746GB unallocated space. No other partitions.

Go into disk management inside windows and delete the existing partition and repartion the whole drive.

I was about to do that but the instruction says I have to enable RAID before installing the new driver but by doing that, I get the BSOD. I'm not RAIDing my system.

I agree. You do not need a RAID setup just to be able to use the HDD lol.

Have you tryed to erase the HDD completely with Kill Disk 7.1 for Windows?
It should show the total size of the drive and you will be able to kill it (erase it 100%).That will also uninitialize the drive.
