Problem installing new hardware

Basicly it seems Windows XP Pro won't let me install any USB sticks or even my photo camera. When plugging them in, instead of just installing automatically, the "new hardware installer" prompt shows up but won't ever install the drivers even with the Windows CD in the drive.

Also I recently installed a SATA hard drive & CD drive and even though they're properly installed, anytime I start Windows they're detected as new hardware as well...

How can I get this sorted?

install the drivers the came with it......

No drivers come with USB sticks, neither with the SATA hard & cd drives.

Go into device manager and install the driver that way.

How do I know which drivers I have to install?

Should have and exclamation mark next to the things that need drivers installed.

hmmm - sounds strange. Run the system file checker to see if any xp files are missing - driver.cab file should be providing these drivers automatically.

Try going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the drivers there.
