Problem installing Windows

So I just got a new HDD for my build because my last one was about to die, I had to send it in to get it replaced so I do not have the old one with me. The first couple of times that I went through the start of the Windows XP installation page (you know, when the screen goes from black to blue and starts saying that it is unpacking things and what not... call it what you want) it worked good up until a point where it would say "Starting Windows" and then it would say that it could not detect a HDD. I figured out that I forgot to plug in the HDD so I tought that it would be an easy fix.

Once I plugged the HDD in and tried again I got the same error message. So I thought that something must be loose. I unplugged all of the cords in the computer and put them all back in, making sure that they were in nice and snug... this is where the weird thing started to happen.

Instead of bringing up the installation page it got stuck on the "Loading Operating System ..." text right after it shows the motherboard info like it always does first whenever it boots up. PICTURE AT BOTTOM OF THREAD (note that it isn't blurry on the screen, I have shaky hands)

I did what I did before, unplugged everything and made sure that it was all in right, only this time I took my time and double checked everything, and I still have this problem... I can't enter in Safe Mode, and I can't seem to get into the BIOs, but I may not be trying to get into that the right way either. It has been sitting stuck on those three words for about 10-15 minutes when usually it is only up there for 1 or 2 seconds... can someone please offer me some help?

Also, it has the same problem whether or not there is even a disk in the DVD drive... adds to the puzzle.... :(

Does the hard drive already have windows on it? If you got the drive replaced from the computer maker, it could have came with a drive image and then you just turn it on like normal and set it all up again, just like you do when you first buy a new computer.

However, its possible that the drive may be defective. Unhook the hard drive and see if it boots like normal again. If it does, then its the drive, return it.

That was the problem..... well that sucks, 2 and half weeks waiting for that drive and they send me a dead one... thanks for the tip man at least I know the problem.
