problem on sleep and long down time

when my computer sits for a long time (over night in particular) in the mornings i have to cut it on and off and on and off repeatedly before i can actually get it to "boot" up, it cuts on, but i dont know what it does, because the monitor stays black with ''no signal'' but my computer fires up, all the fans come on and everything lights up like its on,

i was putting my computer to sleep at night, now im shutting it all the way down and im getting the same deal

i have no idea what its doing, occasionaly it will say it has failed a boot test (this is triggered in one of my on off on off sessions)

the only 100% way to get it to boot up is to pull the power cord from the rear of the pc for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in and it will fire right up no problem

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Are you sure you're clicking Shutdown, and not sleep? Just checking. . .

Otherwise, all I can think of is reinstalling Vista (I assume this is what you're using - it used to lag all the time for me too - then one day, it just stopped). Maybe service pack 1, if you don't have it.

ya, i am shutting it down, i may have to re install windows as you said

i am using vista, this is the first problem ive had iwth it

Before you reinstall, I'd check to make sure service pack 1 is installed. This can be done by going to Start and typing welcome center in the text box near the bottom of the screen. Then click show more details. Near the top, it tells you your Windows version and if you have any service packs installed.

If not, you can download it from www.microsoft.com or from Windows update, but you probably already have it. Sorry I don't have any more/easier suggestions.
