Problem playing midi files

I bought my laptop less than 1 year ago and it cost me 1100$ but I just realized that it has difficulties playing midi files. The sound cut off and there are "click" sounds.

I wonder if it is because my sound card is too weak. I had no problem with midi files with my previous laptop which was very cheap so I don't understand why I would have problems with a laptop that cost me so much.

Here's my laptop:
Thinkpad lenovo E550
Audio: Conexant SmartAudio HD
Intel core i7-5500U
Ram: 8 Go
On Windows 7 professional 64 bit SP1

What do you think. Is the sound card the cause of the problem?

Thanks

VLC needs the FluidSynth codec in order to play midi file but this codec is no longer supported by VLC when running on Windows.

But I have found the solution:
1- Download a midi soundfount (.sf2 file).
2- Install VirtualMIDISynth (http://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth). It will take charge of the midi stream using the previously downloaded soundfount.
3- Use a player that let you use VirtualMIDISynth like this one: http://www.vanbasco.com/

I have no problem playing midi file now. :)
